Otoplasty, also known as "ear pinning surgery", is a good option for patients who are bothered by how far their ears stick out from their head.

Earlobe Repair Surgery is a good procedure for those who suffer from earlobe deformities. Split earlobes from wearing heavy earrings or whose ears have been damaged in an accident. (May require bifid earlobe repair. Ear lobes stretched downward could benefit from earlobe reduction surgery.

 

 Preparing for Treatment

  • Initial Assessment

    Dr. Okada will meet with you to evaluate your needs and make a recommendation for what treatment may be best for you. She may take medical photos at this time.

  • During Treatment

    Depending on the complexity of your treatment, you may be given local or general anesthesia, but otoplasty is generally an outpatient procedure. The doctor will use incisions and stitches to accomplish your goal.

  • Recovery Timeline

    Post-surgery, your ears will be bandaged to protect them, and you may have some pain or itching as they heal. You’ll need to sleep on your back to avoid irritating your ears, and you will likely be asked to wear a loose headband to protect your ears at night for two to six weeks.

Will this procedure hurt? 

Because earlobe surgery requires an incision and stitches, there will likely be some discomfort as you heal. Pain medication and compresses can be used to alleviate the post-surgical pain, but pain should be very manageable after a few days. 

What are the possible side effects or health risks of earlobe repair and otoplasty?

Any surgery carries some risks. Dr. Okada will review these with you ahead of the procedure, and gain your consent on several forms. Possible risks might include:

  • Anesthesia risks

  • Asymmetry

  • Bleeding

  • Scarring

  • Changes in skin sensation

How long will my earlobes take to recover? 

Most patients require less than two weeks of recovery after earlobe surgery, in which they can return to their regular lives. It is recommended that patients wait until after six weeks to begin strenuous activity.
